Review of "My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3"
Spoiler Alert I have seen 1&3 i have not seen the second one
The Film starts about a year (or more (i say about 4 years max)) after "My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2" (At the end of 2 the family drops Paris off at collage & in 3 Paris has done her a year in collage) and Gus died (Because Michael Constantine died in 2021) and the "family" is going to Greece to give Gus's journal to his 3 best friends (What i mean by "family" is Toula,Ian,Paris,Voula,Freida & Paris's love interest, Aristotle ("hired" by Voula to be a assistant (although it becomes very apparent that Voula only hired him to set Paris up with him)
So, they land in Greece (all of the film takes place there except at the begging and end & when a video call takes place) and are taken to Gus's village where we are informed it has 6 residents so a bit later in the story Toula feels like she failed her father because she cannot find his 3 best friends for the reunion held in the village, so she calls Nikki & Angelo (who were working at the restaurant) and they went to Greece the summer before the "family" did so they (Nikki & Angelo) get on a flight to Greece and it starts this "side plot" where they go around to some of the Greek islands and try and find Gus's best friends
Meanwhile it is revealed that Gus was with another woman before maria and had a son and he had a son so his son and a girl from the village get together (i said that so strange they're in the same village) but the father of the son disapproves at first then accepts same with the adopted mother of the girl and they make their wedding the same day of Gus's reunion it is also reviled that nick brought over Gus's ashes to Greece and he was going to plant Gus's ashes with seeds next to the tree he played by when he was a boy
Then its Saturday the day of the wedding/reunion so the wedding happens at the village and then at the end plot twist Nikki & Angelo show up and they (Toula,Nick and their half brother) plant Gus's remains and Toula gives them the journal and Toula is appointed head of the family along with nick then they fly back to Chicago & the movie ends.
Now for my take... It was different w/ out Gus like the whole family was connected to him and him being gone sorta made things strange but that's not all of it the wedding part of "my big fat greek wedding" wasn't even on the Portokalos family and the last 2 were in the family. It feels like a tired series , like they should of stopped after 2 because all this movie really is, is a movie that didn't need to exist all they really did was go on vacation in Greece. I think they lost the magic of what made My Big Fat Greek Wedding, My Big Fat Greek Wedding. I feel it is embraces an old saying "Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die" 2 Nephi 28 and that mood just wasn't there in the original but who knows the original film was made 20+ years ago in short i feel it is only one of the many re-releases comeing out in this day & age and also there weren't many people at my theater watching it but yeah that's my review of "My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3"
